Q&A
1. How much will it cost me to build my log home?
There's no magic formula to determine the cost of a log home. How much you'll pay depends on the size, quality of building materials, finishes, and fixtures that you select. Log packages can range from what's necessary to build the basic shell to a turn-key home that's move-in-ready. Make sure you understand what's included when a log producer quotes you a package price. The best way to compare prices fairly is to submit the same floorplan and specifications to each log producer that your're considering. Also, remember that there could be additional costs not included in your package, such as the land, foundation, well, septic, mechanical systems, and much more. Remember we offer one of the most comprehensive packages on the market with only the finest materials included. Compare and use the Katahdin Challenge, we stack up heads above the rest.
2. Why should I select cedar over other types of wood?
Simply put, cedar has many architectural and aesthetic advantages over pine and other species. Blessed with natural preservatives that make it one of the most decay/rot resistant and insect tolerant woods available (over 8 times longer life than pine when in contact with the ground). Minimal cracking/checking, and cracks will not penetrate the heartwood. On top of that, white cedar has the highest "R" value of any wood commonly used in log home construction, a rating of 1.41"R"/inch of thickness. The "R" value of various pine species used in log home production is 1.12 "R"/inch of thickness. That makes all Ruger Mountain Cedar Log Homes very "climate friendly" and protects your family against either hot or cold exterior temperatures.
3. How much can Ruger Mountain Cedar Log Homes customize my home?
99% of our homes are custom designed. Almost all designs can incorporate a round log support system called a purlin roof, although there are some limitations.
4. Is it possible to include only certain materials in our log package?
Yes! Ruger Mountain offers its customers the opportunity to tell us what should be included in their package.
5. Must all walls of my new log home be constructed of wood?
Certainly not! While most of our customers prefer the natural beauty of our wood paneling for interior walls, many prefer to use other materials to introduce different colors, textures, and patterns. Variations range from stone, drywall, stenciled plaster, ceramic, or a combination of these.
